Mother Spirit in the Caribbean (page 3)
The new maternal icon who arrived in Cuba with the Spanish 500 years ago heralded in the period of time we now call the " 24 Generations". These would be twentyfour generations of oppression, accompanied by racial and class conflict which would evolve during that period of five centuries. She had come to temporarily replace the ancient legitimate ancestral matriarch spirit of the island. She had come to provide solace and hope to a hopeless people. Whereas the ancient Taino Matriarch Ata Bey, had always been represented as a pregnant fertility personality at the point of giving birth, the new Matriarch represented a proud mother holding her healthy infant son in her left arm. This was Yoka Hu as much as he was the child Jesus. He was Yoka Hu, the spirit of Life, the spirit of Light, the spirit of Hope. In the same way that Ata-Bey generously offers the sacrifice of the male Yuca food spirit, her son Yoka Hu, for us to live so the Christian Virgin offers the sacrifice of her son for the same reason.
The present day chapel in El Cobre is the symbol of the period of  our human history that leads straight towards our encounter with Destiny in the year 2012. From the year 1492 to the year 1992 humanity travelled the bumpy road of the last leg in our millenial history. That period of time represents the last episode in a drama that began 260 centuries ago. That 260 centuries is the sacred period of time during which humanity was coming back together after a primordial global dispersal. It was the period of time during which humanity's consciousness could evolve and humanity could physically recongeal into one people as it had started. The human community would again become one.

Now in the twentieth century the people of the Earth were experiencing the completion of the last five hundred years of that epochal era. We witnessed humanity coming to terms with our own flaws. We witnessed the awakening of awareness of all people to the joys, fears, sorrows and passions of all other people, the end of human isolation, the end of religious, ethnic, racial and national separations.
The history of the reunification of our species had been obstructed by the geographical separation created by the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The drama of reunification had been unfolding independently on both sides of the oceanic separation. But it could not become complete and global until the two worlds, the Old World and the New World could unite. That finally began to take place in 1492. As a result of Columbus' expeditions the Old World and the New World became One World in a dramatic and tragic process.

In 1998 Pope John Paul II visited Cuba. He was the first living pope ever to visit the island. On that occasion he took the opportunity to visit the city of Santiago and the little shrine of the Virgin of Charity in the nearby town of El Cobre. He was given the honor of placing a new crown on her head.
1492 heralded the final episode of the millenial drama and the Caribbean became the focal point of this dramatic event. The prophecy of Aurasurey and Guaricheanao called for a period of twentyfour generations of resolution of the ancient human journey, five hundred years at the conclusion of which certain events were to manifest. One of these events was the reconstitution of the Taino Nation.  In this touchstone place, this verdant paradise, the Cosmic Matriarch expressed the transition from one phase of the journey to another by changing her appearance and transferring her residence from a native hut to a Christian church.       But the prophecy declared that after she had served as regent during that period of time, after she had nurtured the child of hope that she carried at her hip, after he had matured and come into his own, she would ultimately offer him to her people and he would represent New Life, New Light.
In 1992 the history of that pivotal period of five centuries came to an end. A new period began. It was a period of twenty years from 1992 to 2012. This period is the last katun, the Mayan sacred time cycle that allows for the final wrapping up process.
During this final wrapping-up period the Lord of Life would come down off of the Mother's arms, fully matured and ready to fulfill his destiny. He would again manifest himself in his anscestral Taino form as the "Mountain Cemi",  the three-pointed native statue of Taino lore. His re-emergence would herald in a new cycle within which the tradition and the ancient spitituality no longer needed to hide behind a pretense of conformity, but expressed itself openly.
That event happened in 1992 at the end of the five-century long twenty-four generation period. In that year the efervecence of Taino pride and Taino resurgance that had been evolving underground for about two decades exploded into full rebirth as groups of Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Hatians and Dominicans began to openly identify themselves as Tainos. They began to form themselves into identifiable tribal communities. That year at the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center in Pittsburgh Pennsylvanie U.S.A. members of the newly formed Taino communities in New York met for a spiritual ceremony  with representatives of the Caney Indian Spiritual Circle.
A participant in that gathering, a woman  now known as Grandmother Naniki brought forth a sacred Taino three-pointed cemi which we now identify as the Mountain Cemi. This image was a stone sculpture of Yuka Hu in the shape of a mountain. It had been gifted to her by a Puerto Rican farmer who had discovered it on his land. It represents a new high-point, the climactic achievement of human survival, the triumph over Death and Dispair.

The emergence of this stone sculpture was the fulfilment of the prophecy. The Cosmic Mother had acted through her earthly representative, Nanike, a holy woman. The Cosmic Mother had returned her son back to the people through this person and he was destined to reign during the next twenty years of the prophecy The Last Katun!
